Old Chapel graveyard
On the left is the new Sunday School building which opened in 1987. Enclosed by railings is a memorial to Francis Dukinfield Astley Image A group of three chest tombs, each with a moulded base and a slab which bears an inscription are Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1068078 as a group. The first has an inscription in Latin to Samuel Angier, Minister, died 1713. The second which has square corner urns to the chest is inscribed to the Reverend William Buckley of Dukinfield, died 1752 and his wife, son and daughter. The third is inscribed to William Dukinfield of Castle Hill, died 1735. There are more than three table tombs in the graveyard and I'm uncertain which are the three so listed. In the foreground is the grave of Kathleen Esther Oliver Image killed in 1906 in a collision with the first ever motor car to be driven through Stalybridge.
