Woodbank Memorial Park Entrance
The entrance to Woodbank Memorial Park Imageon Turncroft Road. The glacial erratic behind the portico is from the Lake District. On the right is Vernon Park. Woodbank Memorial Park, 90 acres in extent and skirted by the River Goyt was presented to the town in 1921 by Sir Thomas Rowbotham, a former Major of Stockport, in honour of the Stockport men who died in the Great War.

A brave cat carved
Part of the chainsaw sculpted Memorial by Tim Burgess to recipients of the Dickin Medal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickin_Medal (the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross), in Woodbank Memorial Park. The only cat to have received the medal was Simon. HMS Amethyst's ship's cat was awarded for "gallantry under fire" and for the disposal of many rats despite shrapnel injuries during the Yangtze Incident in 1949.

Foster the Frog
First found in Merseyway Shopping Centre Image, Foster the Frog was a Bonus Frog on the 2019 Stockport Frog Trail. It was sponsored by Stockport Council Fostering Services https://www.stockport.gov.uk/showcase/fostering and created by Toubie Jack https://www.toubiejack.com/ Now it has found its way to Vernon Park.

This chainsaw sculpted Memorial to recipients of the Dickin Medal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickin_Medal (the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross), is in Woodbank Memorial Park Image There is a horse at the top, a mule, a carrier pigeon, a cat, an Alsatian, and a mongrel dog that found people trapped by the Blitz bombings - as well as a dove of peace, and an inscription - 'They died in war - they still serve in conflict', and the Ministry of Defence emblem. The sculpture is over 16 feet tall.
