Ye Olde Village Fish and Chip Shop, Back Lane, Mottram
According to The Independent it is one of the ten best chippies in the country (in 2006), running since 1902 https://web.archive.org/web/20140310045900/http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/features/the-ten-best-fish-amp-chip-shops-525869.html 'Lez Brierley uses local potatoes and a secret-recipe batter. "There's only two ingredients, though I'm not saying what they are," says Lez. Large haddock and chips £4.10, mushy peas 70p.' (in 2006). The house next door has a 1694 date stone so they had to wait over two centuries before they could get a decent fish supper.
