SOS for Landmark Telephone Box
The telephone box on Werneth Low Road Image opposite the top of Higham Lane Image has been earmarked by BT for removal Image The GX Brabyns Neighbourhood Group have been looking into adopting the box. However as they are not a registered charity they don't qualify for BT's "Adopt a Kiosk Scheme". They are looking at available possibilities and in the short term are urging people to make objections in writing to Tameside MBC.

TEJRJWNE
The telephone box at Four Lane Ends Image has the word TEJRJWNE instead of the word TELEPHONE on one side. Why has always been a complete mystery. One theory is that if you rearrange the letters it spells Wernetjj. The signs for this area used to be made by a Spanish guy and those who know Spanish know they pronounce j as a h, he was a bit of a joker apparently so this was the result.
