195-199 Talbot Road, Newton
On the left is The Clarence Image, originally The Clarence Hotel Image and whilst in danger of closing in 2010 Image it was revived in 2012 Image In the middle is #197 Talbot Road. Although it doesn't appear to be named it is Grade II listed http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-212494-197-talbot-road- and described as early 19th century; Flemish bond brick with coursed rubble rear and slate roof; two storeys; stone plinth and rusticated quoins. The central door has a rusticated surround with keystone. The adjoining house #199 is a later addition having a name and datestone, Early Bank, 1900. Sign on the side of the Clarence
The writing on the side wall of the Clarence Image on Talbot Road is long-standing but the sign is relatively new. It wasn't there in 2010 when the pub was closed and looking for a new landlord. Unlike other pubs in the area it found one and is still open.
