Newtonhurst (1)
Off Victoria Street, Newton are some six-house terraces known as Newton Hurst dated 1920 Image According to http://hydonian.blogspot.co.uk/2010/06/newton-hurst.html they were built by the now defunct Waldorf Stationery Company of Newton Mill to house its workers. Apparently these houses are back to front. Before Charlton Avenue and the current estate of new houses was built on the former Newton Hurst cricket ground, a small road on the other side of the houses provided the main access, so what are now the back gardens were originally the front. This is the one on the right hand side facing Victoria Street. Left hand Image See aerial views from 1922 and 1935 on Old Hyde http://oldhyde.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/newtonhurst-from-air-1922-1935.html
