Bulls Head, Old Glossop
The Bulls Head is the oldest pub in Glossop believed to have been built in 1607, based on the date inscribed on a stone lintel over the back door. It is possible the name derives from the barbaric practice of bull baiting in which the unfortunate animal was tied to a stump and attacked by dogs - the winner being the dog that could hold on longest. Fortunately, such spectacles ceased long ago and the pub is now a Robinson's house with four en-suite bedrooms.
