Car Park at Melandra Roman Fort
Melandra is a small garrison fort, it is situated on the western edge of Glossop within the Gamesley estate. The fort has been excavated by Manchester University and is a scheduled monument in the care of English Heritage. However, in modern times its major function seems to be as an exercise area for the estate's dogs.

Plaque marking the position of a Roman fort
This important Roman fort site covers some three acres. The name "Melandra" was coined in the 18th century. It should rightly be referred to as Ardotalia. See Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardotalia
