Poynton Pool
Although the OS refers to it as Poynton Lake I have only ever heard it referred to as Poynton Pool in the forty-odd years I have lived in the area. Being in Cheshire it might be expected to be referred to as a 'mere' but I suspect it to be almost wholly man-made and a mere should really be a natural feature.

Poynton Lake
Poynton Lake (aka “the pool”) is an artificial lake covering approximately four acres. It was constructed in the 1760s by Sir George Warren who dammed a tributary of Poynton Brook, as part of a landscaping project. The dam itself served as the foundation for the turnpike.
