Gawsworth St James from across the pond
The tower of the church is all that can be seen from Church Lane until you get close to it. The tower, dated to c.1497 - 1536, contains a ring of eight bells and has a clock with dials on the north, east and west sides.

Gawsworth St James - south porch
This is the more ornate entrance to the church, probably intended as the principal one, but in practice the north door is used now.

Gawsworth St James - barrel roof
The timber barrelled roof of the nave is said to be unique in Chester Diocese. This, and the beautifully designed door to the bell tower, with its timbers curved to fit the shape of the spiral staircase, make me wonder whether the master carpenter was trained as a cooper.
