Jodrell Bank arboretum - Eris plaque
Beneath the canopy of a tall tree Image is a steel plaque which marks the furthest known dwarf planet in our solar system - Eris, discovered in 2005. This is one of a set of such plaques within the Jodrell Bank site with the 'sun' Image being close to the Lovell telescope 969 metres away. However Eris has a very eccentric orbit, meaning its distance from the sun varies widely (but of the order of 10^10km), so the scale distance is somewhat arbitrary.

Pluto - Jodrell Bank Arboretum
Scattered through the arboretum are symbols and plaques denoting the planets of our solar system located at scaled distances from the symbol of the Sun at the entrance to the grounds. It gives some sort of feeling for distances as the Earth is within touching distance of the Sun but Pluto is a kilometre or more away.

A535 above Dingle Bank
Maybe the limos in my other picture stopped like I did to look across the fields to Jodrell Bank. Wherever you stop in Cheshire for a look at the view the cry always goes up, inside your head or out in the open -'There's Jodrell Bank'.

Looking out towards the Peak District
Grassy, sheep filled fields dominate this area, here looking east from the A535 toward the Peak District. Dingle Bank Quarry (sand) can be seen on the left among the trees.
