Beam engine in a former shop, Macclesfield
This project had been ongoing for about 15 years but was never to be completed. Mr P Blackshaw was erecting this single cylinder beam engine in a former shop premises that were part of his engineering works. The engine is possibly of 1840s vintage and was used at Macclesfield Steam Saw Mills, last running in 1912 and being removed c1959. Reconstruction started c1978. It is a condensing engine with slide valve cylinder 20" x 36". It was subsequently moved to the National Trust's Styal Mill where it was returned to steaming condition - Image
