Windmill Street, Macclesfield
Originally leading up the hill to the windmill that ground copper ore for smelting in the nearby Charles Roe factory. When the business was moved elsewhere after the death of Roe the mill was converted to more normal usage: grinding corn.
The mill in the picture is one of a number of silk mills still standing in Macclesfield but all are used for different purposes. The River Bollin runs at the foot of the mill on this side and the road bridge over the London mainline is immediately at the photographer's feet.

St Peters War Memorial Hall, Macclesfield
The War Memorial Hall is located on Windmill Street near to St Peter's Parish Church. The Inscription on the front reads:
St PETERS
WAR MEMORIAL
HALL
1914 1919
Unlike the church, there is no apostrophe in the name (because the hall does not belong to St Peter).
