V1 Rocket impact crater, above Crookedyard Farm, Langley
The V1 rocket was launched by an adapted Heinkel 111 off the Yorkshire Coast on the morning of 24 December 1944 and probably was targeted on Manchester but went off course and crashed into the ground not far above Crookedyard Farm. There was some local damage to properties and a few injuries but no fatalities.

V1 rocket crater above Crooked Yard Farm, near Tegg's Nose
On the 24th December 1944, the Luftwaffe targeted several V1 rockets towards Manchester but as so often the case, many of these rockets went off target. One such rocket slammed into the ground just east of Macclesfield and the crater can be still seen today. In the photograph it can be clearly seen beside the right of the two telegraph poles.
