Canalside security in Macclesfield, Cheshire
Property owners by the Macclesfield Canal in Cheshire are not tolerant of intruders. Never mind "beware of the dog". The dog seems to have disappeared.

Adelphi Mill and Macclesfield Canal at Bollington, Cheshire
Opened in 1856 by Martin Swindells, a local cotton spinner who also owned Clarence Mill in Bollington, he built The Adelphi Mill for his two sons, hence the name 'Adelphi', which is Greek for brothers. It is now converted to offices. http://www.adelphimill.co.uk/history.asp The "pub" which had staircases down to the canal towpath is now disused; it had a very short life.

Passing Adelphi Mill
The approaching boat is one of the few still operating commercially on the canal. It carries solid fuels which are sold on a retail basis to boaters and local residents.

Canal by the Adelphi Mill in Bollington, Cheshire
Looking north towards Marple along the Macclesfield Canal. The Adelphi Mill was built in 1856 for the spinning of cotton, and later silk. During the Second World War, spinning ceased and the production of parachutes took over. At the end of the sixties the Mill was bought by Britax for the production of webbing for motorcar seatbelts until the late eighties. The Mill was then sold and converted to offices and for workshop uses.
