The Silk Road, Tytherington, Macclesfield
The A523 bypass of Macclesfield town centre was so named after popular consultation and recognises the town historic connection with that branch of the textile industry. The footbridge is constructed of laminated timber for all the structural elements and was, when built, the largest of its type anywhere and having the longest free span. Bridge over the A523
This bridge allows pedestrians and cyclists on National Cycle Route 55 to continue southwards from the end of the Middlewood Way (old railway route) on a cycle path on the opposite (west) side of the Tytherington Bypass - a section of the road that was itself built on the next section of the railway route towards Macclesfield. The bridge consists of a pair of laminate timber arches with cross-bracing, from which the deck is suspended.
