Melbourn: thatch on the corner
A bend in Station Road on the way out of the village towards Meldreth. The thatched house is Grade II listed and dates from the end of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th.

Melbourn Fire Engine House, Station Road
The Grade II listed fire engine shed dates from 1862. Next to it and my bicycle is a stench pipe, its top lost among the branches. These are usually Victorian cast iron, but this one is concrete, like another Cambridgeshire example I photographed recently: Image Other stinkpipes in Melbourn: Image] Image] Image] Image] Image] Image] Image]

Melbourn: thatch and the church tower
A picture taken against the light on a sunny June morning. The Grade II listed timber-framed thatched house dates from the late 17th century or early in the 18th. Melbourn is nearly in Hertfordshire, so it is no surprise that like others in this part of South Cambridgeshire the parish church's tower is topped with a Hertfordshire spike (or flèche). This one is shingled rather than lead-covered.
