Mole channels have been drawn along 'tramlines' through the Gault clay subsoil at regular intervals to aid land drainage on this uncropped, set-aside field; looking NE towards the junction of the A603 Cambridge Road with the lane up to Wimpole Hall.

Orwell: road signs at the Wimpole Hall turn
Looking across the A603 towards Old Wimpole and Wimpole Hall on the bright morning of Easter Sunday. On the right, next to the footpath signpost, is a cast-iron sewer vent pipe which is much smaller than stinkpipes usually are.
