Inscription on the Red Hart public house, Bucklersbury
The last Hitchin public hanging said to have taken place in the yard of the pub. Other sources report that the hanging was of a highwayman in 1868. Greene King closed the pub in 2017 but it subsequently reopened as the Kite at the Red Hart.

Sun Street, Hitchin. Originally built in the 16th century, this coaching inn has played an important part in the life of the town for over 400 years. It is said that the late Queen Mother attended dances here when in her teens (her family lived near to Hitchin).
