Down ECML express approaching Hitchin, 1951
View SE near Hitchin South Box. The locomotive is one of the original Gresley A1s, built 9/23 as No. 1481, becoming LNER No. 4481 'St Simon', renumbered No. 112 in 1946 and rebuilt as Class A3 in 8/46, then as BR No. 60112 survived until 12/64.

This is on the tiny River Purwell. I think it must have had an undershot water wheel as the valley is not very steep.
