Footpath to subway under St Michael's Road, Hitchin
An unpleasant example of car centric urban design: not only are pedestrians forced to use a subway to cross the road, but there is also no pavement alongside the road as it goes over the subway, forcing anyone walking along this side of the road (such as your intrepid photographer) to use this path that deviates from it horizontally as well as vertically.

Railway bridge across Wymondley Road, Hitchin
Carrying the East Coast Main Line south east of Hitchin station. The bridge appears to have been widened at some point, presumably when this section of line was quadrupled, which gives the appearance of greater clearance for road traffic than there actually is, hence the luminous warning chevrons.
