Bishop Woodford
Label stop by the north door of St George's Church. Traditionally these stops are caricatures of the reigning monarch and current bishop (thanks to Richard Croft for pointing out this custom). The church was restored in 1875, so this must be Bishop James Russell Woodford of Ely.

St George's Church
The body of the church is Perpendicular, but the chancel was rebuilt in 1875, when the whole church was restored. The chancel, with its short transepts, was disused by 1970 and has since been demolished, the east end now being closed by this plain window and new wall within the original chancel arch of two chamfered orders.

We are not amused!
Label stop by the north door of St George's Church. Traditionally these stops are caricatures of the reigning monarch and current bishop (thanks to Richard Croft for pointing out this custom). The church was restored in 1875, so this sour-faced queen must be Victoria.

Organ in Hatley St George's Church
The instrument, with its diapered front pipes was built by the London firm of Bevington in 1878 and was moved to its present position opposite the south door of the church from the decaying chancel (since demolished) in 1962. There are four stops on each of the two manuals and a pedal bourdon.

Saints Simon, James Major and Matthew
Victorian stained glass by the Cambridge glazier William Henry Constable in the parish church at Hatley St George, one of a set of four windows each depicting three of the twelve Apostles; "big decayed saints" according to Simon Bradley's revision of Pevsner's guide. Matthew holds the volume of his Gospel, and James carries his pilgrim's staff and wears a rudimentary (and green) scallop shell on his left shoulder. Some historians believe that the church's original dedication was to St James the Great before it was usurped by the local St George family.

St George's Church
The church with its 14th-century tower was built just outside Hatley Park. The chancel, poorly rebuilt in the 1870s, was demolished in 1971 leaving just the short nave, supported by brick buttresses.
