The Alms Cottages, Clifton
This pair of cottages for widows was built in 1872 by the Particular Baptist Minister Septimus Sears. He edited two national magazines, The Little Gleaner for children and The Sower for adults. These cottages and another pair that was demolished in 1960 were paid for by the profits from these and other of his publications, hence the inscription over the door to No.12. The tiny cottages each have a living room and a bedroom, with a shared washroom at the back. See http://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/CommunityArchives/Clifton/10And12SheffordRoadClifton.aspx for more detail.
