Henlow Camp: RAF Henlow and Hawker Hunter aircraft
In 1918 Henlow became the first new operating base to be opened by the then new Royal Air Force. The aircraft on static guard duty is a Hawker Hunter with the registration WT612. Built in 1954 it was retired in 1957 and used as airframe instructional exhibit until 1984. Here's food for thought. In 2010 that aircraft is 56 years old. 56 years prior to it being built, in 1898, the Wright Brothers' first powered flight in 1903 was still 5 years into the future. Yet the 1954 aircraft still looks modern, to my eyes at least, in 2010...

Henlow Camp: Henlow Industrial Estate and site of the former Henlow station
Deserted on a Sunday afternoon this view was taken from the southern end of the estate looking towards the B659 Hitchin Road. Up until the 1960s this was the site of Henlow railway station and its sidings, with the route of the Bedford and Hitchin Railway running behind the industrial units to the right.
