London Waterloo: The 'Kings Arms', Roupell Street
This fine pub is within a stone's throw of Waterloo Station. There is a good selection of real ales, and food as well. But the pub is hard to find unless you know just where to look.

View from Waterloo East station
This is the view from Platform A at Waterloo East station. The survival of terraced houses on the left is quite a surprise as they are so close to the South Bank. Ian Nairn in Nairn's London published in 1966 says "Real cockney, still in good condition, still where cockneys ought to be, embedded in Central London. Here is true architectural purity ... nothing but yellow London brick and unselfconscious self-respect."

Roupell Street, SE1
It is not difficult to see why this street has been used for on-location filming of many productions set in the 19th century, including "Upstairs Downstairs". But looking west along the street it is dominated by the Shell building and the London Eye!
