County Hall: North and South Blocks, 1990
North Block and South Block were erected as supplementary office space some time after the main body of County Hall, on the other side of Belvedere Road: this road latterly was barred to traffic and became the County Hall car park. Through the gap between the buildings is York Road. After County Hall was sold off, North Block was extended into the car park area in the bottom left of this photo. At this point in its existence County Hall was virtually empty: the Greater London Council had been abolished in 1985 and the London Residuary Body charged with winding up its affairs had virtually completed the task. For a little while longer the building would belong to the people of London, but it would shortly be sold to a Japanese property company.
