Simon the Tanner shuts up shop
This pub on Long Lane, Bermondsey closed in summer 2009. The name reflects the leather industry that once went on in Bermondsey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanner_(occupation) and the name Simon in this context comes from the Bible - Acts 10:6 "He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea." Update: unlike most London pubs that close and are gone for good (or reopen with a new name), this one reopened in March 2011 with the same name.
