The sign seems to indicate that the pub was rebuilt in 1890, dating originally from 1760 (the arms are those of George III).

Borough High Street roadworks - ongoing
Following an earlier sequence of photos in winter 2010 when the southbound lane was closed for gas and water main works, by the end of April work had switched over to the northbound lane, though in fact the diversion continued for southbound traffic. The cyclist was not supposed to be heading south down the high street in this arrangement!

Newcomen Street, London SE1
According to this http://www.londonremembers.com/memorials/john-marshall the red brick building shown in the image was erected in 1853. It carries a plaque with the following lettering: "John Marshall, founder of Marshall's Charity, lived at his mansion house near this spot until his death in 1631, as did his father before him.
