Red Cross Gardens
Red Cross Garden was established by the social reformer and joint founder of the National Trust Octavia Hill in 1887 to "bring beauty and fresh air to the tired inhabitants of Southwark". She was also responsible for the building of the six little houses along one side of it which can be seen here on the other side of the pond. Though the garden was at one time lost, it has now been recreated and is maintained by the Bankside Open Spaces Trust. There is also a community hall on the edge of the garden which is now in private ownership. It is here seen right of centre.
