Borough: The Church of St George the Martyr
Previous churches on the site having been demolished, the current one dates from 1736 having been rebuilt to the design of John Price. The church is also known as Little Dorrit's Church in view of its Dickensian connections. The church has suffered greatly from subsidence problems and major restoration works were undertaken between 2005 and 2007. Note the flag of St George and the golden orb with its weathervane at the top of the steeple. The church's website is here http://www.stgeorgethemartyr.com/ The church is now on an island site at the geographically important junction of the main arterial routes of the A2 Great Dover Street and the A3 Borough High Street. This view was taken across the road junction from outside Borough tube station.
