Church of St John
The new industrial village of "Morris Town" (today: Morriston / Treforys) was laid out on a grid plan in the lower Swansea Valley in 1768. The design envisaged the building of a church in the middle of the community's main crossroads, to serve as the spiritual and visual focal point of the new township. Although the first church on the site opened in 1789, it was a temporary building. The present church of St John opened in 1857 and was finally declared redundant as a place of worship in 1999-2000.
