A thriving little community. Prendergast was once physically separate from Haverfordwest but despite the two finally meeting, Prendergast retains its identity. The church hall is on the left and the Bull Inn on the right.

Rock Cottage Prendergast
The frontage of this Victorian house, which seems recently to have been renovated in a regrettable way, is full of interest. There are a number of ornamental carvings above the doors and windows, central under the roof being the head of General Gordon of Khartoum. Why??? Well, as a newly-hatched lieutenant in 1854, aged 21, Charles George Gordon was employed in the construction of defensive fortifications around Milford Haven, including Scoveston fort, see Image, and it seems that one of the local building firms involved in the work was John Morgan & Sons. When the head of the firm built this house for himself in 1888 he must have commemorated his connection with the military hero of Khartoum (who had been killed in the siege 3 years earlier) with this carving. (I am grateful to information supplied by Sybil Edwards in her book 'The Story of Milford Haven Waterway' Logaston Press 2001, reissued 2009).
