Castaway on College Row
Fishing tackle shop and Schooners Wine Bar above, on College Row, note the decorative red bricks in the building, a common decoration on buildings of Cardigan. Many years ago local bricks were made by Cardigan Brick Works, I have seen yellow examples, but I expect red ones were made also.

Ornamental brickwork: High Street, Cardigan
At the north end of High Street. Both the facing bricks and the decorative blocks were probably produced by the Cardigan brickworks, which was 0.25 km north of here, and operated about a century ago.

Barley Saturday: stallion parade
Barley Saturday at the end of April goes back to 1871, or possibly earlier, when it was a hiring fair for agricultural labour and a celebration of the end of the spring sowing season, barley being the last crop to go in. Although it ceased during the war years it was restarted in 1961 and has become steadily more popular despite remaining essentially a local affair.
