Caersalem baptistry, Cilgwyn
The water supply appears to run under the road from the direction of the chapel a few yards away. Immersion could be a chilly experience on this exposed hillside!

Caersalem Baptist chapel
This imposing but simple non-conformist chapel dominating the high ground above Cwm Clydach was originally built in the early part of the C19 to serve a growing community that populated the common land roundabout, often by claiming squatters' rights. The chapel was rebuilt in 1915 and 1948 and remains in use today. On the front stucco facade a clockface reminds of the approaching judgement day! See Image

The ticking clock...
But in fact the time shown on this slate clockface on Caersalem Chapel Image stands at 10.42, allowing a little margin to prepare for the day of reckoning. The words caution: "Watch your step when you enter the house of the Lord". See Image
