I had for long been intrigued by 'Roche Castle (Remains of)' on the one-inch map, and eventually found it, with a local man as guide. There isn't much left!

Roche Castle
This fragment of wall is about all that remains of Roche Castle, which wasn't a castle at all, but a manor house of circa 1300. It appears that the ruins were not referred to as a 'castle' until the mid 18thC.

Collector's items, Broadway near Laugharne
This 'Steptoe's Yard' is hidden down a lane and is yet another example of the condition whereby the owner says "Never chuck it away - you never know when you will need that!". Here an old Volvo estate sits rotting away just around the bend with a cargo of what looks like dis-assembled stile or fencing wood piled on its seats and various van carcases rust away after presumably being cannibalised for parts. But never realised for scrap value. A mystery and a conundrum rolled up in an enigma.
