Constitution Hill (2)
This vertiginous street seems to swoop straight down so it's easy to imagine why a funicular railway was thought to be needed in the late C19; in fact it lasted only a couple of years as it was not cost effective to run. See http://www.tramwayinfo.com/Tramframe.htm?http://www.tramwayinfo.com/Cards/Postc40.htm Recently the hill has been improved with relaid cobbles and installation new 'period' street furniture.

Down Constitution Hill, Swansea
Padlocked black posts block vehicular access to and from Terrace Road. Constitution Hill is one of the steepest road hills in Swansea. In the early 20th century, the Swansea Constitution Hill Incline Railway operated up and down this hill. One source states that the height difference between the top and bottom of Constitution Hill is 184 feet (56 metres). Average gradient 17% (1 in 6). Maximum gradient 33% (1 in 3), despite which, a route up Constitution Hill is part of some local cycle races!

Constitution Hill (3)
Looking down what must be one of the steepest residential streets in Britain, from Terrace Road which runs along the top. This was the location of the winding house for the cablecars of the funicular railway that briefly operated on the hill in the late C19, see http://www.tramwayinfo.com/Tramframe.htm?http://www.tramwayinfo.com/Cards/Postc40.htm
