Sculpture in the SE corner of Swansea Central police station
Viewed across the A4118 Grove Place. Swansea Central police station was built in the early 21st century on the site formerly occupied by Swansea's main fire station. The police station is the area headquarters of the Western Division (Neath Port Talbot & Swansea) of the South Wales Police force.
The sculpture on the right is Thumbprint by Andy Hazell. Made from laminated stainless steel sheet,
the sculpture features whorls and ridges made of words cut through the steel sheet. They describe police history and explain various abbreviations. A few examples are:
1839 Glamorgan Constabulary established. Police wear stovepipe hats and fishtail tunics.
1896 Whistles replace rattles in raising the alarm.
1946 999 calls introduced.
1961 Fingerprinting Department established.
GBH grievous bodily harm.
SOCO Scenes of Crime Officers.

Swansea Library (Recreated)
Looking northeast up Alexandra Street towards the railway station, the library can be seen on the right.
This is a recreation of the 1925 photo from the Frith collection here: http://www.francisfrith.com/search/wales/west+glamorgan/swansea/photos/swansea_77380.htm
Notice how the top part of the library's central tower is now gone. Also a modern tower block is visible behind the library, beyond the junction. I believe this is called Alexandra House.
