B & Q Warehouse, Greenland Road
This site was previously a massive post-war bus depot for Sheffield Transport, then Mainline. First Group had no need for it and B & Q moved onto the site. In less than 10 years the site has proved to be too ambitious. The car park is rarely anywhere near full, and the floor space within the store is being drastically reduced.

The Industry pub sign, 89 Main Road, Darnall
The pub is closed but the faded weather-worn sign remains. It shows two workers, possibly in a steel factory. Image

The Industry, 89 Main Road, Darnall
Sheffield is famous for its heavy industries, particularly the manufacture of steel. Much has gone today and so have many of the pubs around here, which must at one time have served the workers in the local factories, as well as local residents. The building on the left was a pub, appropriately named The Industry. At the moment it seems to be undergoing renovation, but probably not as a pub. It is next door to another former pub, The Meadow Image The building on the right is a barbers and being photographed on a Sunday it is understandably closed. The steel shutters seem designed to keep unwanted visitors out.

Junction of Catley Road and Main Road, Darnall
The road in the foreground is Main Road, which then turns right by the closed pub, Image, and continues past the Powerline premises as Main Road. The road ahead is Catley Road, and the Lidl supermarket seen in the distance is on this road.

The Duke of York, 135 Main Road, Darnall
Like a lot of the pubs in this area, this one is well and truly shut. No doubt the closure of local factories, reduction in population, too many competitors, etc; etc; have all contributed. Architecturally it is quite an attractive building, so let us hope it survives.
