The B6200 Staniforth Road looking west from Shirland Road. This was once the main A57 Liverpool to Lincoln road before the Mosborough Parkway was built in the early 1990s, I think.

Aqueduct on Sheffield Canal
Just over a couple of kilometres away from the terminus in Sheffield, the canal turns to head NE in its route towards Meadowhall. It also needs to cross over Darnall Road / Worksop Road (via an 'acadock' - local pronunciation!). The road dips down sharply to accommodate the canal and railway, giving rise to an area under the bridges often flooded in periods of sudden heavy rain. In the distance, the floodlight towers for the Don Valley Stadium can be seen.

Albert Inn, 162 Darnall Road, Darnall
Situated in the Darnall area of Sheffield and named after Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. The pub sign has a portrait of the prince. The pub was formerly a house of the local brewery William Stones Ltd, now closed. Despite the closure of a large neighbouring factory, closure of the former garage in Bridport Street and demolition of many nearby houses, the pub has survived, together with The Sportsman on the opposite corner of Bridport Road. Image Bridport Street today is much shortened and survives to give access to a park. Not so fortunate is The Ball further along Darnall Road. Image

The Sportsman pub sign, 156 Darnall Road, Darnall
This rather unusual and slightly faded pub sign looks as if it has been hanging outside for a good many years. Image

The Sportsman, 156 Darnall Road, Darnall
This is a free house on the corner of Darnall Road and what little is left of Bridport Road. On the opposite corner of Bridport Road stands the Albert Inn. Image The Sportsman is a free house and offers a large TV for major sporting events.
