Abyssinia Bridge
The bridge got its name from the 1868 invasion of Abyssinia by British troops. Until 1907 it existed only as a footbridge. Then Vickers, owners of the River Don Works Image had the present bridge built to facilitate expansion onto the south side of the river. The bridge was widened in the 1990s to accommodate the Don Valley Link Road between Sheffield city centre and the M1 motorway.
