On the other side of the wall is a 'lean to' building. Presumably these windows were originally intended to let in light.

Poplar Tree, Worrall Road, Wadsley, Sheffield
This very tall Poplar Tree, at the junction of Worrall Road and Langsett Avenue, is featured in a very old photograph of the area and is dated 1905. That makes it - in my estimation - over 100 years old. In the old photograph it is only about 6 feet tall and the description indicates that it had been purloined from the nearby Lunatic Asylum grounds.
