The Burgoyne Arms, Langsett Road, Langsett, Sheffield - 2012
Compare this shot with that taken in December 2008 ... Image ... and as you can see, not a lot has changed except for the colour which is fading, and the A in Arms has gone missing. Both the Mddlewood (Yellow) and Malin Bridge (Blue) Sheffield Supertram routes share the tracks along Langsett Road; these are visible in the road as well as the intrusive overhead wires. They do glide along quite quietly so care is needed when crossing their paths ... see ... Image Image Burgoyne Road is just up the road, and this and the pub are named - or so the superb contributors to the Sheffield History site tell me - after the Burgoyne Family, who were Lords of the Manor of Owlerton from the late 18th Century. When Catherine Burton (Lady of the Manor) married Sir Roger Montagu Burgoyne of Sutton Park, she gave the Owlerton Manor to her second son, Montagu George Burgoyne, in 1853. Owlerton is a nearby area of Sheffield famous for putting the Owls into Sheffield Wednesday!
