Maplin Electronics, Hillsborough, Sheffield
This store has been on this site - opposite Hillsborough Barracks - for some years now ... I certainly remember it being there some 15 years or so ago. According to enquiries made via the Sheffield Forum ... these premises were used as a Petrol Station before Maplin took it over and converted it ... and I must say it does look like a Petrol Station from the 1970's. Before then, a Cinema / Theatre was on the site ... this was called The Phoenix and was named after its first owner Harold Phoenix. The Phoenix opened in 1911 and finally closed in 1960.

The '393 Club' on Langsett Road, Hillsborough, Sheffield
This fabulous building was opened in 1907 as a Club for the Officers from the nearby Hillsborough Barracks ... the other ranks would have used The Queen's Ground just up the road! It has also served as a Boy's Club and currently - as the '393 Club' - it hosts a variety of activities including boxing. The '393' relates to it being 393 Langsett Road!

Upper Level Car Park Entrance and Exit to Morrison's Supermarket, Hillsborough Barracks, Hillsborough, Sheffield
Notice the Gate Tower from the original Hillsborough Barracks ... the whole site has been fantastically preserved by adapting the buildings for modern usage as a Supermarket and Offices

The main building of the Hillsborough Barracks complex is now owned by Sheffield Insulations and used as their Head Office. Originally it was the Officers Quarters and Mess ... also used by their servants! The car on the right is just exiting Morrisons upper car park. Image

Former Gate Tower at Hillsborough Barracks, Hillsborough, Sheffield
Between the Tower and the white-washed building is a narrow lane which goes by the name of Swamp Walk ... fortunately the Swamp has now dried up!
