Wadsley Bridge railway station (site), Sheffield
Opened in 1845 by the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, later the Great Central Railway on the line from Manchester London Road via Woodhead to London Marylebone, this station closed to regular passenger traffic in 1959. It was used by football specials for the nearby Hillsborough football ground until 1996.

Wadsley Bridge Station
A rail enthusiasts special, The Stilton and Branston Ploughman. makes a photo stop at Wadsley Bridge Station. The station was on the original Woodhead Line from Bridgehouses in Sheffield to Manchester London Road - evidence of the 1500v DC overhead line equipment used on this route is visible above the train although the actual wires had long since gone by the time this photo was taken.
The station closed to regular passengers services in June 1959, though Sheffield-Huddersfield services continued to use the line until 1983. Although not served by regular trains, specials continued to use the station - notably football specials for matches played at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough Stadium. These ceased in 1996. The station buildings which were in a dilapidated state when this photo was taken were demolished soon after the football specials ceased.
The line remains open but is worked on a 'one engine in steam' basis to run occasional trains from Sheffield to Stocksbridge, serving the steel mills there.

Former Moss & Gamble Mill, Fox Hill Road, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield
The former Moss & Gamble Mill has now been converted into apartments ... known as The Mill, which seems logical. There are also new houses to the rear of the mill, some of which can just be seen.
