Tinsley Motive Power Depot, Tinsley
ADB 965308 SNOW KING - This is a snow plough (coupled to a flat wagon), which is used for clearing snow from the railway tracks. It is pushed along by one or more locomotives, which have another of these snow ploughs (facing the other way) attached at the rear for working in the opposite direction.
Tinsley had two snow ploughs and here is the other - ADB 965309 SNOW QUEEN - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3157291

Remember Tinsley depot .
The view from the bank looking across to Tinsley depot stabling sidings. These were packed out at the weekend with all the freight locos parked up.The depot has now shut and all the buildings have been demolished. There is very little freight now originating from the Sheffield and Rotherham areas. All the coal mines have shut and most of the steel works with them so the work for the depot has gone, hence its demise.

Tinsley Yard
On a damp day in Sheffield this view shows the south yards as they were before the tracks were ripped up. The north yards were roughly twice this size. Tinsley was built as an automated wagon sorting yard and opened in 1965 employing hump shunting and automatic retarders to control the speed of the rolling wagons. The locos on the right are stabled outside the depot which is located on top of the embankment next to where I am standing. The bridge in the distance carries the A630 over the railway.
