Market Street, Clay Cross
Looking down Market Street from close to its junction with High Street. The estate agents on the left takes its name from the famous twisted spire in nearby Chesterfield. This otherwise obscure small Derbyshire town came briefly into national prominence in 1972, when all 11 Labour councillors on the then Clay Cross Urban District Council refused to raise council house rents and resigned en masse in protest against the Housing Finance Act.
