Detail of 126-128 West Bar, Sheffield
Exuberant upper stages of an otherwise modest building. Ornately moulded and rusticated window surrounds, and central dormer under a segmental pediment flanked by volutes. Edwardian perhaps.

Former Common Lodging House, West Bar, Sheffield
An original building, outside the main flow of Edwardian architecture. Its rather forbidding air presumably reflects its function of providing rooms for the poor and the-then prevalent attitudes to such provision, and those making use of it. That said, the accommodation provided here was of a better standard than usual, and residents had access to public rooms and social facilities. Striking use of red and yellow brick. By John Reginald Truelove, 1912. Now flats and known as Mayfair Court.

Ghost sign, Lambert Street, Sheffield
It reads, "THE CELEBRATED GLEANER/THE GLEANER SUPER KEEN BLADE MADE IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND", and there is a reference to a "SMOOTHER SHAVE". The rest is illegible to me. Perhaps a product of John Watts,Image], on whose wall it has been daubed.
