This used to be where the A57 came into the city centre. It will shortly turn into West Street. The tram is currently out of action for rail replacement work.

252-254 West Street, Sheffield
The best of a good run of buildings prominently featuring faience or terracotta. This is the former. A sumptuous display above the ugly shopfronts. By A.N. Bromley, 1906. Built for Boots, which is still here. A pity they haven't been more respectful to such a venerable servant. The curious lack of a listing may be explained by the shopfronts, but it is still curious.

Boots store, West Street, Sheffield
Opened in 1905 replacing an earlier Boots shop. Buff terracotta over modernised shop fronts. The architect, A N Bromley was Nottingham-based and carried out several commissions for Boots. This store bears a striking resemblance to its contemporary companion in Nottingham https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2798174 to the extent that it is likely that many of the same terracotta moulds were used for both. Despite the similarity, while the Nottingham building is Listed Grade II*, the Sheffield building is not even locally listed. The key difference is that the Nottingham store retains its original shop frontages.
