Steel Statue, Hoyle Street, Shalesmoor, Sheffield
This Statue in Steel stands in front of the site of the site of the Titanic Works Parts of the original works remain, including a 19c Grade II listed Drop Forge, and other parts have been re-constructed using original salvaged materials. All of these are incorporated into the modern building behind the statue, which contains Student Accommodation, Meeting Rooms and other facilities .. see … Image Image The statue was constructed by local artist Jennie Gill using designs taken from old engineering drawings found in the Titanic Works during demolition. Visible in the left background is the only remaining complete example of a Cementation Furnace in the world. This 'refurbished' furnace stands in the car park of the HSBC building which can be partly seen on the right of the statue.
