Stocksbridge Hall
Off Park Drive ... usually 'hiding' behind the trees, you have to wait for Autumn to be able to get a reasonable view of this fine looking building which was built in 1858. The Stocksbridge map of 1903 shows this building to be in a large estate with a long drive up to the Hall from Manchester Road. A Lodge was situated at the bottom of the drive. Many houses and bungalows (including those shown on link Image) have now been built on the estate and surround the Hall

Oaks Avenue, Garden Village Estate, Stocksbridge
The footpath in the foreground leads down from the Leisure Centre ... Hunshelf Bank is in the background. Oaks Avenue is part of a small housing estate, built in 1918, known as the Garden Village Estate. When the houses were originally built, each had a Fruit Tree planted in its garden ... donated from the nearby Oxley's Fruit Farm (now long gone). I have to say that, now, there isn't much evidence of these Fruit Trees!

Park Drive Bungalows, Stocksbridge - 2
... but from behind (or front) they are much bigger. There are nine blocks like this one ... all built on the hillside to give a great view over the Lower Don Valley. Image

The Venue (and Victory Club), Stocksbridge
This view, from the rear Car Park, shows the 'new' Venue Building and (closest to the camera) part of the 'old' Victory Club ... inside you can't tell the difference. In this view the Steelworks is off to the right. Image Image Image

Stocksbridge Rugby Union F.C., Stocksbridge
The Club 'took over' Stocksbridge Chapel in 1988 as its headquarters. I'll bet there is plenty of 'Suppin' in t'Chapel' these days.

Beware of the Trains, Stocksbridge Steelworks
Note the Warning Sign on the wall at the left ... looks nothing like the Yellow Shunter in the distance ... but don't say you haven't been warned! Mind, you can't help but hear the Trains and Wagons squealing and shrieking around the place.
